Calling all golfers: the SJA Phil Sheldon golf day is back

The SJA will once again host a golf day in memory of the eminent and much-missed photographer Phil Sheldon at Muswell Hill GC in north London.

This annual, 18-hole event (an individual Stableford off full handicap) for the Phil Sheldon Trophy will take place on Monday, July 29.

It will be preceded by coffee/tea and bacon roll (or veggie equivalent) and followed by a two-course lunch. The cost will be £60 a head (£25 for MHGC members) and a variety of prizes will be presented to the winners by Gill Sheldon.

Anyone brave or foolish enough is welcome to play further holes after lunch at no extra cost. Also, anyone not wishing or unable to play golf but keen to join us for lunch will be very welcome at £16 a head (not including booze).

Phil, who passed away in 2005, was a member of Muswell Hill along with the Press Golfing Society, Association of Golf Writers and SJA (via the now defunct Professional Sports Photographers’ Association).

The last time this event was held, in 2017, the winner was photographic entrepreneur David Jacobs who has kept the trophy in pristine condition.

The day is being organised by former SJA chairman Paul Trow, a Muswell Hill member, and anyone wishing to play can register their interest with him on ptrow76780@aol.com or 07973-862747. Payment will be extracted from participants on the day.
