Press conference – UK School Games

The inaugural UK School Games will be held in Glasgow from September 7-10. The event will be funded by the Millennium Commission who will provide a National Lottery grant of £1.5m with Visa as presenting sponsor. A press conference will be staged at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow, on August 24 to announce details of the event.

Present at the press conference will be Yvonne Murray-Mooney, the former European 3,000m champion, Steve Frew, 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Steve Grainger, chief executive of the Youth Sport Trust. There will also be potential Scottish UK School Games hopefuls.

When: Thursday August 24, at 11am

Where: Bar Area, Scotstoun Stadium, 72 Danes Drive, Glasgow G14 9HQ

The Youth Sport Trust is responsible for staging the Games, which will include athletics, swimming, gymnastics, table tennis and fencing plus disability events in athletics and swimming.

Competitors will experience an opening and closing ceremony, medals and accommodation in a Games village.
