Tennis Writers name Murray as Player of the Year

Andy Murray: Olympic gold and silver, Wimbledon final and US Open victory makes him easily the Tennis Writers’ player of the year

Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Jonny Marray took the top awards from members the Lawn Tennis Writers’ Association at its annual lunch held at the All England Club at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Murray thanked the membership with a video message from his winter training camp in Florida.

Murray has had the best year of his career with a first Wimbledon final against Federer,an Olympic gold medal over Federer and his first Grand Slam title win in the US Open.

The Scotsman is among the leading contenders for the SJA’s Sportsman of the Year vote, the result due to be announced at the Tower of London on Thursday.

Marray entered the honours list after winning the Wimbledon doubles title – the first British player to do so since 1936.
