Rob Tanner has been hired by the Leicester Mercury as its chief Leicester City reporter.
Tanner joins from the Birmingham Post and Mail, where he has been covering West Midlands football for the past decade.
He has been appointed by acting Mercury editor Keith Perch from more than 140 applicants.
The Mercury is to launch an expanded 16-page sports supplement every Monday once the football season starts.
