It was with great sadness that BAWA learned of the death of Lorraine Mackay. Lorraine was the marketing and communications director for the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham earlier this year and the wife of Duncan Mackay, formerly BAWA’s chairman, and the athletics correspondent of The Guardian.
Flowers on behalf of BAWA have been arranged for the funeral, which takes place on Monday July 9 at 2.30pm at Sutton Coldfield Crematorium.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Duncan and Lorraine’s children, Sarah and Tom.
â– There was further sad news recently when another BAWA member, Peter Matthews, suffered a heart attack on returning from the Golden League meeting in Oslo.
Peter, a former BBC Radio and ITV Sport athletics commentator and the editor of the ATFS athletics annual and co-editor of the highly respected Athletics International newsletter, is being cared for at Barts Hospital in London.
We wish him well for a full and speedy recovery.
