All change for athletics writers

There’s a series of changes coming up for the British Athletics Writers’ Association, with wholesale moves coming up at its annual meeting later this month, and a new date and venue for its annual awards dinner.

The dinner will be held on Saturday November 14 at the Marriott Grosvenor Hotel. Tony Barden – tony.barden@hotmail.co.uk – is the contact for organisational questions and booking details.

The annual meeting, being staged at Crystal Palace before the start of the London Grand Prix meeting, at 12.30pm on Saturday July 25, will see Simon Turnbull, of the Independent, proposed as the BAWA’s new chairman, as Jason Henderson stands down after two years in the office.

With Doug Gillon standing down as secretary and Chris Turner retiring after nine years as treasurer, candidates to replace them are Henderson and Barden respectively. Matthew Brown will continue as newsletter editor.

Any members unable to attend the meeting can send proxy votes to Sally Skea up to 24 hours before the AGM: sallyskea@btinternet.com.

The AGM is also an opportunity to welcome new members. If you have any candidates, it would be helpful, but not essential, if you could give notice before the meeting, by email to Doug Gillion (doug.gillon@theherald.co.uk).
