Ex-BOA man Howell moves to tourist board

Mark Howell, the BOA’s former press chief, has joined VisitLondon, the former London Tourist Board, in a key role as senior project manager for the 2012 Olympics.

Howell has worked on four previous Olympic Games and worked at Transport for London on marketing and communications for 2007’s Tour de France Grand Depart in London.

His new role will see him target key and emerging tourism markets, promoting London as a destination as well as the Olympic Host City.

While he was at the BOA, Howell was involved in the early discussions in 2001 about launching London’s bid.

Howell, a keen sailor, has also worked as media director for the inaugural Volvo Ocean Race and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), serving as press officer for them during the 2004 Olympics in Athens. In 2002, he was highly acclaimed for his work under difficult circumstances as a venue press manager at the swimming and diving for the Manchester Commonwealth Games.

He joins VisitLondon from Brand Rapport, one of the leading sponsorship agencies involved in the Olympics.
