Goodbody takes over as editor of The Olympian

John Goodbody: Olympian editor
John Goodbody, an SJA member since 1967, has been appointed editor of The Olympian in succession to Doug Wilson, who died last year.

Although many countries have organisations for competitors who have competed in the Games, only Britain has a magazine for its members, which is distributed to more than 3,000 people.

“Chris Baillieu, the chairman of The Olympians, suggested I get involved with writing obituaries for the magazine because I do a large number for The Times,” Goodbody said. “When Doug sadly died, he asked me to take over. Doug had done a tremendous job over more than 15 years.”

London will be Goodbody’s 12th successive summer Games as a journalist, a longevity matched by Barry Davies, the former BBC radio and television commentator who has voiced Goodbody’s six-hour audio book A History of the Olympics (Naxos), the new edition of which will be coming out for 2012.
