Marathon target for Mirror man Holt

OLIVER HOLT, chief sportswriter at the Daily Mirror, asks all fellow SJA members to consider supporting his next venture

I know this may come as a surprise to some of you but I am running the New York Marathon on November 2. Running it, walking it, crawling it,whatever.

Anyway, the idea is a) to raise some money for the Geoff Thomas Foundation, b) to lose some weight and c) to spend a few hours
in discomfort bordering on unpleasant pain.

Geoff, as most of you will know is a former footballer who played for Manchester City for a brief time and Crystal Palace for much longer.

He has raised £800,000 for leukaemia charities following his diagnosis with chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2003. He set up his own foundation in 2007 and is now on a mission to fund a pioneering network of blood cancer drug trials across the country. He’s a good bloke and, like so many others, it’s a good cause.

You can donate as painlessly as is possible in these straightened times at www.justgiving.com/oliverholt. All contributions much appreciated. I’ll let you know how I get on.
