Tee off with the SJA at our 2017 golf day

As the Open at Royal Birkdale looms into view, SJA members’ thoughts should turn to their very own golf championship at Muswell Hill Golf Club in north London on Monday, September 11, writes PAUL TROW.

We will be playing for the Phil Sheldon Trophy, in memory of one of the great stalwarts of the SJA, and the Professional Sports Photographers Association. Phil, a top golf photographer, was a member of Muswell Hill.

The format is 18 holes of individual Stableford (full handicap) followed by a two-course lunch which will be attended by Phil’s widow Gill. The first tee has been booked from 9.30am and two buggies have also been reserved.

The cost for the day – to include golf, lunch, prizes and bacon rolls (please inform us of any other dietry requirements) – will be £55 a head.

Entry requests should be sent to Paul Trow on either 07973-862747 or ptrow76780@aol.com, preferably no later than September 1.

All SJA members are encouraged to take part and bring a guest – the club and event welcomes golfers of all abilities and, in some cases, of no ability whatsoever.

Those who don’t intend to play golf but would still like to come along are welcome to join us for lunch (we will sit down around 2.30pm) for £20. Prize donations will also be gratefully accepted.

Paul will contact all entrants at least a week beforehand with tee times and all other relevant bits of information.

Founded in 1893, Muswell Hill Golf Club is a par 71, 6,100-yard parkland course and a great test of golf. The tree-lined, undulating fairways and outstanding greens is a pleasure to play and the final stretch probably one of the toughest finishes among golf courses in London.
