Hard copies of the entry forms are being posted to all SJA members, as well as to the sports desks of national newspapers, news agencies, photo agencies and leading regional titles.

Entries submitted should include original work that has first appeared in British-based publications – on any platform – and published between January 1 to December 31 2013, so entries need not be submitted before the New Year. The award organisers hope that by making the entry forms available now, poential entrants can begin to collate their portfolio and consider carefully which pieces of work to include.

The closing date for entries in all categories is Monday, January 27, 2014.

Paid-up members of the SJA receive a 20 per cent discount on their entry fees.

The SJA’s Sports Broadcasting Awards are determined by a ballot of our members, which will be conducted early in 2014.

The John Bromley Sportswriter of the Year will be chosen by a vote of national and regional sports editors. A panel of leading figures in sport and the media will vote for the Sports Newspaper of the Year, and the Ed Lacey Trophy for the Sports Photographer of the Year will be selected by our panel of judges from the winners of our portfolio categories.

The winners in all categories will be announced at our annual gala awards dinner being staged on March 24 at the Grand Connaught Rooms – ticket sales for which will be open in January.

  • Between now and the end of 2013, anyone wishing to join the SJA may apply, with their initial fee covering their membership through until the end of 2014 – effectively 14 months’ membership for the price of 12. Click here for more details
