Strachan retires after 39 years on Aberdeen sport

From AllMediaScotland
Jim Strachan, former sports editor at Aberdeen’s Evening Express, has retired after 39 years at the newspaper.

One of his major achievements as sports editor was to help promote the Chris Anderson Medal scheme, which rewards north-east Scotland’s best sporting youngsters.

In a farewell news story on the sports pages of the Evening Express, headlined “Cheerio to Old Jim”, his successor as sports editor, Charlie Allan, said: “We will miss the old codger, particularly his corny comments, which we came to call ‘Strachanisms’. My favourite? ‘I’m feeling a bit melancholy today. I’ve got the heid of a melon and the face of a collie’.”
