Trinity Mirror has sold 25 of its local papers in Kent, Surrey and Sussex and a local magazine group in Dorset to Northcliffe – the local newspaper division of the company which owns the Daily Mail – for £64.15 million.
Trinity Mirror had announced earlier this year a wide-ranging disposal, including the sale of its sports division, principally the Racing Post. No announcement has yet been made about the sale of the national daily betting title.
But this morning it was confirmed that East Surrey and Sussex Newspapers, which publishes two paid-for weekly papers – the Croydon Advertiser and the Surrey Mirror – as well as five free papers, with a combined distribution of around 313,000, would be sold to Northcliffe.
Also being acquired in the same deal is Kent Regional Newspapers, which includes six newspapers, including the Dover Express and the Medway News. Total distribution for all the Kent titles is more than 400,000.
Northcliffe has also agreed to buy Blackmore Vale Magazine, Fosse Way Magazine and Community Magazine – three free titles published in Dorset, with a combined distribution of about 136,000.
