Mail’s sports subs get seal of approval

The Grey Cardigan is the Press Gazette‘s online diary column that takes an often acerbic look at our business.

Yesterday, it highlighted some top work by the subs on the Daily Mail‘s sports desk:

It won’t surprise you to learn that I don’t think that subs get enough credit for their sterling work, so let’s take a minute to celebrate a belting heading on today’s Daily Mail column by Des Kelly, which ruminated on the curiously stilted reaction of the British people to the success stories of Lewis Hamilton and Andy Murray.

“Little Britain has it in for Lew and Andy” it reads. Perfect – clever, funny and it makes you want to read the piece.

I now await, with some trepidation, the shouty email from Des Kelly claiming that the bastards stole it out of his intro and used it as their own …
