Five jobs to go at Standard sports desk

The sports desk will be hardest hit in the latest round of job cuts at London’s Evening Standard, with five subs’ jobs likely to go in its latest “restructuring”.

According to a report in today’s Guardian, the move by the Standard to go to a single edition from next month, which will see a total of 20 jobs culled across all departments, will hit affect sub-editors hardest, with five staff go from sport, with two going from the City desk and one from pictures.

The Guardian reports: “Negotiations are underway to reshape the paper’s news operation, which could see cuts to the current night shift of one news editor and two reporters. Casual reporters on short-term contracts have their positions under review.”
