BSkyB buys Wisden Cricketer magazine

The Wisden Group has sold the Wisden Cricketer magazine to BSkyB. Sky’s magazine publishing subsidiary says it plans to keep Wisden Cricketer‘s editorial and commercial teams in place, with editor John Stern staying in his role.

Wisden Cricketer has a monthly circulation of around 35,000.

The Wisden Group, which is owned by the Getty family, will continue to publish the annual cricket almanac while licensing Sky to use the Wisden name in the title of the criket monthly. The group has also sold its other magazine, The Oldie, to a group of investors led by the magazine’s former business manager, James Pembroke.

Wisden has decided to concentrate its efforts for future growth on cricket website Cricinfo and the ball-tracking technology Hawk-Eye.
