The Aberdeen Evening Express is to mark the return of Bayern Munich to the home of Aberdeen FC, Pittodrie, tonight in unusual style, by handing out a reprint of the newspaper’s coverage of the last time the sides met in European competition.
The newspaper is to reprint a copy of its issue back in 1983 when the Dons came back to beat Bayern 3-2 in the quarter-final of the European Cup-Winners’ Cup. Aberdeen, under Alex Ferguson, went on to win the final against Real Madrid.
The copy of the 1983 issue will be given away free with the normal paper. Current Dons manager, Jimmy Calderwood, writes a weekly column for the Evening Express, and also has a regular slot in the Daily Record. The match is being shown live on BBC1 Scotland.
