Curling offers students chance to cover world champs

The World Curling Federation (WCF) is seeking student reporters, a photographer and TV production trainee to work on all-expenses-paid trips at their world junior championships in Estonia or women’s world championships in Japan in February and March.

Entries for the WCF’s sports media trainee competition have to be submitted by January 22.

One trainee journalist and one trainee photographer will be selected to attend the world junior championships 2015 in Tallinn,with trainees expected to arrive approximately February 26 and departing on March 9.

Another trainee journalist and a TV production trainee will be selected to attend the woemn’s world hampionships in Sapporo. They will be expected to arrive approximately March 12 and depart March 23.

All applicants must be studying in full-time education and aged between 18 and 30. A full set of competition rules can be found on the WCF website here, together with how to enter the competition.

Under the WCF media training programme, students from around the world get a unique opportunity to develop journalistic, broadcast production or photography skills in a practical setting, providing them with first-hand knowledge and experience to help them progress prospective careers.

Trainee journalists will get to interview athletes and others involved in the championship for regular news reports, while they will also be given the opportunity to write some feature reports.

Photographers will be tasked with capturing all the action on the ice and behind the scenes for the duration of the championship.

TV production trainees will get a wide grounding in many aspects of staging a live sports host broadcast production. Tasks may include assisting with audio and camera equipment,
working with the World Curling TV ENG news feature crew and helping the WCTV Production Management team.
