European body agrees move to Brussels

From Barry Newcombe, Klagenfurt, Austria
The European Union of Sports Press (UEPS) moved another step towards introducing new statutes and establishing its headquarters in Brussels. Delegates meeting here this week approved draft proposals to submit the statutes for informal approval by the Belgian authorities. Formal approval will take six months to a year and will have the signature of the King of the Belgians.

UEPS, the European section of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), will meet in Crete in October to confirm the next step in its re-structuring.

This week’s meeting was held in Klagenfurt because it is one of the host cities for Euro 2008 football championship, and delegates convened in the stadium which will begin its contribution to the tournament by hosting the Germany-Poland match.

Harald Scheucher, Mayor of Klagenfurt, regretted that England would not be playing. “A European championship should always include England,” he said.

From April 21, UEPS email address is: info@uepsmedia.com
