The winners of three categories at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2023 remain in contention for global recognition for their outstanding work.

The shortlists are out for the sixth annual AIPS Sport Media Awards, with the entries whittled down once more. There had been over 70 UK entries on the longlists previously announced.

Those still in the running from these shores include The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal who is entered alongside Adonis Pratsides in Audio for their documentary ‘Go Deeper: Football on Turkey’s Fault Line’.

Meanwhile, Suzy Wrack – the newly-crowned SJA Women’s Sport Journalist of the Year – is up for both Colour Piece and Column in the AIPS awards writing section.

Clive Brunskill, who claimed victory in the Specialist Portfolio category at the SJA Awards, is among eight UK photographers hoping to land the AIPS Photography Portfolio prize.

Last year, there was a clean sweep of wins for British photographers as Oli Scarff, John Walton and Will Palmer all triumphed in their respective categories, while Louis Myles claimed the Video Documentary honours for the second time in three years.

Myles is going for glory once again, with ‘Mighty Penguins’ – which won the silver medal at the SJA 2023 Awards – making the AIPS shortlist.

Another previous British winner at the AIPS Sport Media Awards is Kate Rowan (Telegraph) and she will battle it out with Wrack and six other UK entries to progress in Colour Piece.

The shortlists will now be reduced again, with top 10s due to be announced early next month.

From there, the top three entrants in each category will be invited to attend the awards ceremony, which will be part of the annual AIPS Congress in Santa Susanna, Spain, in late April.
