Play the Game sends delegates to Coventry

Dick Pound, the former president of the World Anti-Doping Agency and still an influential member of the International Olympic Committee, heads the early list of confirmed speakers for the Play the Game conference in Coventry next June.

Other confirmed speakers include some of the world’s leading sports journalists, authors, academics, businessmen and administrators.

They include WADA director general David Howman, sports economist Wladimir Andreff and Betfair’s managing director, Mark Davies.

Other speakers include Hai Ren, director of the Olympic Studies Centre at Beijing University and Fan Hong, director of the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies at the University of Cork, both of whom will shed light on the legacy of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Coventry is the first city outside of the Nordic countries to host the conference, which has been running for the last 11 years. The conference, which will be staged June 8-12, is to be co-organised by Coventry University’s Centre for the International Business of Sport.

Around 400 journalists, academics and sports officials are expected to gather in the Midlands to examine some of the issues facing world sport, such as good governance, anti-doping and participation.

The conference will also address the legacy issues associated with London and Beijing’s hosting of the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.
