World Cup ‘grope’ sparks appeal for women victims to speak out

Calling women sports journalists (reporters, photographers and broadcasters) … The Committee to Protect Journalists want to speak to women who have suffered any harassment or abuse while covering sporting events.

Lucy Westcott, the James Foley fellow at CPJ, is investigating the safety threats posed to women journalists in non-hostile environment after Colombian journalist Julieth Gonzalez Theran was groped last week while covering the World Cup.

The James Foley Fellowship, created in honour of American journalist James Foley, killed in Syria in 2014, is awarded annually to an individual who is passionate about the issues of journalist safety and freedom of expression.

This is a wonderful opportunity for women sports journalists to speak up. Lucy would love to hear from you at lwestcott (at) cpj (dot) org
