Sky News names Nick Powell as its sports editor

Nick Powell has been named as Sky News‘s sports editor, as the channel changes its coverage in parallel with Sky Sports News going HD and subscription-only.

Powell has worked for Sky for the past 15 years and has presented sports news on the channel for the last 10 years.

The appointment comes just months after both BBC News and ITV News appointed new sports editors.

In his new role, Powell will split his time between appearing in bulletins, providing match analysis, presenting the Saturday Sport programme and day-to-day management of the Sky News sports department.

Internal changes that will see Sky Sports News provide the news channel with regular weekday bulletins from its studios.

Further on-air changes will see presenters Charlie Thomas and Chris Skudder now also provide reports from the field during live sport events.
