Victor Chandler to back betting writer award for 3 years

Victor Chandler, the international bookmaking firm, has announced that it will enter into a three-year agreement with the Sports Journalists’ Association (SJA) to sponsor the British Sports Betting Writer of the Year award.

Karl Riley, Marketing Director for Victor Chandler said: “We are delighted to be associated with the SJA, the world’s largest national organisation for sports journalists.

“Here at Victor Chandler we recognise both the value and the contribution made by SJA members towards the reporting and coverage of the major sporting events that drive our business on a daily basis.  Therefore the opportunity to put our name to an award that recognises the highest standards of journalistic quality and integrity in the reporting of high profile sporting content was hugely attractive hence our commitment to a three year partnership with the SJA.

“I look forward to a happy and fruitful relationship with a partner of such standing and heritage.”

The SJA will be presenting its British Sports Journalism Awards in London on March 7, when the 2010 Sports Betting Writer of the Year, as judged by a selection of leading journalism and industry figures, will be announced.

Barry Newcombe, the chairman of the SJA, welcomed the partnership with Victor Chandler. “We are very happy to be able to continue with the betting writer award to help recognise an important area of our business,” he said.

“The next couple of years, through to the 2012 London Olympics, is an immensely significant period for British sport, and we are delighted to be working with Victor Chandler during this time.”

Entry to the Victor Chandler/SJA British Sports Betting Writer award is open until January 21. Writers who cover all forms of betting in any medium – print or online – are welcome to enter.
