SJA Annual Meeting – April 12

All fully paid-up members of the Association are encouraged to attend the 2007 annual meeting of the Sports Journalists Association of Great Britain.

To be staged at the offices of UK Sport this year, from noon on Thursday, April 12, the business of the AGM is to receive the officers’ reports, accept the financial reports of the Association and elect a committee. With 2008, and the Association’s 60th anniversary, on the horizon, there are some busy times ahead.

There will be two significant changes to announce this year.

Foremost is that Bill Colwill is standing down after 12 years’ stalwart service as our Treasurer. I can attest – this Association would not exist without Bill’s hard work and sage wisdom down the years.

Second is that the committee is proposing a change to the membership subscriptions, with effect from January 2008. After more than a decade of SJA subs at their present levels, the cost of mail outs to all members now exceed the income received from this source.

While we continue all efforts to find new sources of income, it is felt that to help ensure the SJA’s future, there is a need to try to cover a greater portion of our costs from subscription revenue.

To this end, the committee is tabling a proposal that subscriptions be raised to £30 per year for London-based members, and £20 for regional membership. Both amounts include VAT.

SJA AGM at UK Sport offices, 40 Bernard Street, WC1 1ST (nearest Tube: Russell Square; Euston is also nearby), from noon, April 12.
