Police called in at People over payments

Trinity Mirror has called in the police after People sports editor Lee Horton was fired following an internal investigation, the Press Gazette is reporting.

Last month, Horton was suspended on full pay and the company said it was conducting an internal inquiry into the allegations of the misappropriation of a six-figure sum in false payments for stories.

Horton was dismissed this week, according to Trinity Mirror.

A police spokeswoman told Press Gazette that officers from Tower Hamlets CID are “investigating an allegation of obtaining money via false representation” relating to a 52-year-old man.
