Dave Kidd has been appointed chief sports writer at the Daily Mirror, succeeding Oliver Holt, who is off to the Mail on Sunday to take over from the retiring Patrick Collins as columnist.
John Cross, one of the best story-getters in Fleet Street, is promoted to chief football writer.
In a separate move Adrian Kajumba has joined the Daily Mirror sports reporting team from the Daily Star.
Kidd, who had moved to the daily from the Sunday Mirror to become chief football writer last year, has also been writing columns for the past 12 months.
The moves complete the changes to the Daily Mirror sports team that started last summer with the appointment of Dominic Hart as head of sport of the three national titles and David Walker’s move to become Daily Mirror sports editor after nine years with the Sunday Mirror.
Dean Morse, former Daily Mirror head of sport, is now sports editor of Sunday titles.
Hart said: “Sport has never had a bigger presence at the Mirror and these appointments underpin an already brilliant team, both in print and digital. I’m really excited about the new line-up and I’m sure our record of fantastic coverage and breaking outstanding stories will become even greater.”
