Entries are now open for the latest David Welch Student Sportswriter of the Year competition, with a week’s work experience at the Daily Telegraph the prize for the winner, and the three short-listed entrants invited as guests to the SJA’s British Sports Journalism Awards in London next March, when the winner will be announced.

Started in memory of the former sports editor of the Daily Telegraph, the competition is for full-time students aged between 16 and 25.

All entrants must submit three pieces of writing – columns, features or reportage – of no longer than 800 words each.

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards and the winner will have their work published on telegraph.co.uk and be offered a week’s work experience at the paper.
