The Sports Journalists’ Association and News Associates have teamed up to offer free sports journalism talks and masterclasses to SJA Academy members.
A Q&A on breaking into sports media with sports broadcaster Katie Shanahan and Sportsbeat multimedia journalist Laura Howard is the first in the series, and will be held on Zoom on Tuesday 25 March from 7pm.
Katie has been highly commended in the ‘Ones to Watch – On Air’ category at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards, while Laura won the SJA Academy Award last year.
Katie was a lead reporter at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for talkSPORT. She’s also reported from the Women’s World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and Wimbledon.
She is a regular face on Sky Sports and ITV.
Laura graduated from St Mary’s University with an MA in sports journalism in 2024.
She has bylines in The Guardian, Sky Sports and The Derby Telegraph, and has freelanced with She’s A Baller, Stats Perform and The Hockey Paper.
