Sky Sports and London 2012 re-launch websites

Sky Sports has overhauled its website for the first time in four years in the latest stage of its multimedia battle with rival Virgin Media over sports coverage. London 2012 has also given its site a new look, which owes much to its derided, £400,000 logo.

The new-look SkySports.com has been relaunched with a host of new features including blogs and podcasts by the likes of Soccer AM presenter Andy Goldstein and programming content.

New content will include the streaming of USPGA golf next week, Soccer Saturday and bespoke web-only packages of clips.

The relaunch comes a week after rival Virgin Media - which recently announced a deal with Setanta to launch a sports news channel to plug the gap left by Sky Sports News - revealed it was to launch a free sports website combining match highlights with the latest sports news.

Virgin said the site would also include “an eclectic blend of views, comment, opinionated editorial and user-generated content”.

Sky’s aim is to make its sports website much more part of a multimedia offering to provide “continuity throughout Sky’s television, mobile and broadband platforms”.

■ The London 2012 website has also undergone a re-design, utilising the vivid day-glo look of the controversial new logo. To view the site, don your dark glasses and click here
