London Marathon Events Limited organises some of the biggest and best mass participation events in the UK.
We are a not-for-profit organisation and any surplus we make is given to The London Marathon Charitable Trust (LMCT) to improve sports and recreation in the areas where we organise events.

We are looking for an experienced Press Officer to join the Communications Team to cover maternity leave. You will work across a number of different areas and key responsibilities will include:
Writing press releases, pitching and placing stories to broadcast, print and digital media for all our events and for The LMCT.
These will include:
o sports-related stories (cycling, running and swimming)
o human interest stories about runners/cyclists/swimmers participating in our events
o specific information about our events from route announcements and spectator festivals to road closures
Leading on the selection and promotion of human interest stories for all our events. This will include:
o Developing the online Story Hub for each event
o Selecting the best stories for use on web and social, including interviewing runners/cyclists/swimmers for a news story
o Pitching and placing the stories to media, including liaison with the BBC for event day coverage for our flagship events
Writing news stories, features and other content for our websites, publications and other channels.
Managing media entries for each event, ensuring deadlines are met and all runners/cyclists/ swimmers are registered.
Assembling the content and messaging for PA announcers and the big screens at all of our events.
Working as part of the Press Office team for all LMEL events, assisting media accredited to cover the events and assisting with general media operations, including mixed zones, photographers and press conferences.
Essential skills and experience
have a minimum of three years’ experience in a press office or similar environment (more would be an advantage)
have a fluent, lucid writing style and display meticulous attention to detail in spelling, grammar and tone
already have a strong network of media contacts and you will maintain and develop relationships with key media
have worked on major (sporting) events
be a pro-active self-starter who is detail-oriented and highly organised
have strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven experience in project and time management
be a team player with a positive outlook and the ability to stay calm under pressure in a fast-changing environment
be willing to muck in at events as required – this could mean anything from cleaning tables and filling the coffee urn in the media centre to escorting an Olympic champion through the mixed zone
Good general knowledge and keen interest in running, cycling and swimming You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends when necessary at our events, which include the Virgin Money London Marathon, the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling, the Vitality Big Half, the Vitality Westminster Mile, the Vitality London 10,000 and Swim Serpentine.
