Moynihan praises archery World Cup at Dover

From Grand National Archery Society
Lord Moynihan, the chairman of the British Olympic Association, today praised the organisers of the Meteksan Archery World Cup tournament in Dover.

The former Minister for Sport spoke of his high expectations for British archers at next year’s Beijing Olympics, and at London 2012.

Lord Moynihan was a guest at the World Cup on Thursday, and met members of the organising committee, and officials from both the world governing body, FITA, and the British governing body, the Grand National Archery Society.

He said: “The organisation of the event is clearly outstanding, and in particular I am delighted with the attention to detail. The governing body have done a great job, and I am also extremely pleased at the comments I have had from FITA today. They were very complimentary about both the event here in Dover, and for the preparations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – and even suggested that in some ways the preparations are already more advanced that Beijing.

“Events like this are significant to our preparations for the Olympic Games which must be Games for both the athletes and young people. Archery will be a major beneficiary of the London Olympics and I believe there will be some very serious contenders for medals in the GB team.”

Lord Moynihan said he was delighted to be visiting the tournament on the day that two British archers – Simon Terry and Alan Wills – reached the semi-finals of the men’s recurve tournament.

This continues some great form throughout the year, most recently with the two team medals, and Alan Wills’ individual bronze, at the world championships in Leipzig.
