Twin Towers for new Wembley

In case you needed telling, it is 40 years ago today since the greatest day in English football history.

It just seems to make the missed opportunity of 2006 all the more bitter.

Amid all the nostalgia for yesteryear and disappointment of this year, perhaps it is time that the Football Association proudly acknowledged the achievement of 1966 and all that by honouring two of the giants of the World Cup-winning side.

The great arch of the new Wembley may well be symbolic of something or other.

But how much more eminently suitable would it be for there to be new Twin Towers at the national stadium: outside the main public entrance, looking down on the old Wembley Way, statues of Bobby Moore and Sir Alf (hopefully a better representation that the slightly sad bronze outside Portman Road)?
