O’Connor back at Times with added tasks

Ashling O’Connor, Olympics news correspondent at The Times, returns to work from maternity leave today with the additional responsibility for general sports news.

O’Connor takes over the latter role from Kevin Eason, who earlier this year moved back to being the pay-walled paper’s motor racing correspondent.

O’Connor’s contact are mobile: +44 782 482 1000; and email: ashling.oconnor@thetimes.co.uk; Twitter: twitter.com/ashlingoc .

O’Connor had a baby boy, Sebastian Peter Johnson, in January. She has been at The Times for more than eight years, four of them on the sports desk. After being assigned to home news when Olympics correspondent, she is now back working with the sports desk.

In separate developments at Times sport, sportsjournalists.co.uk understands that another two long-term regulars on its sports desk, football reporters Russell Kempson and Nick Szczepanik, have both left the paper.

These departures are in addition to those of rugby correspondent David Hands, racing writer Julian Muscat and desk man Marcus Williams, and are believed to be connected with the newspaper’s latest round of redundancies.
