PA Sport’s 2012 wire service launches

From Press Association Sport
Press Association Sport, the UK’s leading sports information provider, today began a dedicated wire service as part of its preparations for the London Olympics.

Launched to mark 1,000 days to go until the London opening ceremony, the Press Association Sport 2012 Wire will cover reports and results from Olympic sport tournaments in the UK and abroad. It will also feature regular exclusive interviews with British Olympians and Paralympians, insight into the country’s preparations and progress towards the event, unrivalled coverage of the cultural Olympiad and comprehensive coverage of the Games in 2012.

Over the next few days a selection of special editorial packages will be delivered to mark 1,000 days to go, including an exclusive interview with IOC president Jacques Rogge. Content on top prospects in cycling, swimming, sailing and the Paralympics will also be provided.

In total, the 2012 Wire will cover all 29 Olympic sports including the lower-profile disciplines such as archery, taekwondo and volleyball, which for the first time will get a real voice in the media coverage.

From launch, the wire will deliver up to 75 stories a month during the winter and 150 throughout summer. By 2012 this will have risen to thousands of stories per month.

Press Association Sport has assigned a dedicated correspondent to each Olympic sport who will provide coverage for the service alongside general news and sport reporters, photographers and video journalists.

For Press Association subscribers, the existing wire service will continue to feature event highlights and breaking Olympic news. The new 2012 Wire will provide significant supplementary coverage beyond Press Association Sport’s usual remit.

Ian Campbell, Managing Director, Press Association Sport said: “This is a fantastic development for Press Association Sport and demonstrates our commitment to deliver extensive, expert coverage of all Olympic sport disciplines.

“In 2010 we will be covering more tournaments and events featuring British competitors than ever before, including the Triathlon World Championships, the British Cycling Championships and the Diving World Series. The launch of the 2012 Wire is a key milestone in our preparations for the Olympics Games and we look forward to announcing digital services for both media customers and sponsors over the coming months.”
