The sports desk at The Sun has seen two redundancies for long-standing, senior figures, with both Ted Chadwick and Keith Nancarrow leaving the paper in the past week.
Chadwick had worked in spells as sports editor and deputy sports editor.
Nancarrow was an assistant sports editor, who worked on production.
The changes are believed to be the latest efforts at cutting costs across the company: News International last week sold the house sale website, propertyfinder.com for an undisclosed sum, while Rupert Murdoch’s global News Corporation holding company slumped to a £2 billion net loss for the financial year to June, hit by huge writedowns in the value of its assets, restructuring charges and a 14 per cent dive in advertising
revenue.
Of Murdoch‘s four paid-for UK national newspapers, only The Sun remained in significant profit.
Following the two latest departures from The Sun sports desk, Tim Allen has been drafted in a production role from the News of the World, where he edited its online sports section. Allen was previously No2 on the News of the World sports desk to Mike Dunn, now The Sun‘s sports editor.
