Walker appointed head of sport in Edinburgh merger

Donald Walker, the sports editor at The Scotsman, has been named as group sports editor, with responsibility for sports coverage in the Edinburgh-based daily and Scotland on Sunday, in the latest phase of mergers at the Johnston Press-owned newspapers.

Around 25 jobs are expected to go as the newspapers combine their editorial operations.

Last month, sportsjournalists.co.uk reported Johnston Press’s move towards a seven-day operation, following a memo to staff from managing director Michael Johnston, in which it was announced that key departmental heads jobs would be merged.

Graham Bean is the sports editor for Scotland on Sunday.
