Roan roams in search of international beat

Dan Roan, Sky’s highly regarded sports news reporter, is to cross channels to Setanta in September in order to stay on the England international football beat, according to The Guardian‘s Digger column.

Sky’s loss of the contract to broadcast live England matches to Setanta Sports has prompted the switch.

Roan, who is a member of the SJA’s Facebook group, was drawn by the prospect of continuing his three-year association with England and most particularly the opportunity to cover Fabio Capello’s attempts to revive a failing team, according to the Guardian.

“The chips are down and England can’t afford to fail again,” Roan said. With Setanta’s leading touchline reporter for Premier League matches, Kelly Cates, on maternity leave until the new year, Roan will have the opportunity to cover Setanta’s top-flight games as well as the FA Cup.
