BT Sport backs SJA’s Rugby World Cup reception

The Sports Journalists’ Association and BT Sport are staging a special international media reception on September 15, before the Rugby World Cup.

rugby world cupThe event is free for SJA members, is being staged in conjunction with the Rugby Writers’ Club, and is an outstanding opportunity to network with sports journalists from France, Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and other participating nations just a couple of days before England play Fiji at Twickenham in the tournament opener.

The BT Sport-sponsored event is being held on Tuesday, September 15 at the Stokes and Moncrieff pub on Richmond Road, Twickenham – a short walk from the stadium’s media centre and close to the railway station – and starts at 6pm.

The event follows the SJA’s international media reception staged in 2012 ahead of the London Olympics and last year’s event in Glasgow for journalists working at the Commonwealth Games.

The Stokes and Moncrieff has a significant link to rugby.

On March 27, 1871, at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, the first recorded rugby international, between England and Scotland, was played in front of 4,000 spectators. The tmen leading out their teams – Frederick Stokes and Francis Moncreiff.

The SJA/BT Sport Rugby World Cup international media reception represents another terrific benefit of membership of the Association, and provides an outstanding opportunity for correspondents from websites and regional newspapers, as well rugby correspondents and broadcasters, to meet in a relaxed environment to exchange notes on the up-coming tournament.
