By Janine Self

Luke Edwards has left his job as chief sports writer of The Journal in Newcastle to become north-east reporter for the Daily Telegraph, where he replaces Rob Stewart.

Edwards, 33, went to The Journal as a graduate trainee straight from Newcastle University. After acquiring his Proficiency Certificate, he moved on to the sports desk in 2002.

Stewart, who had been with the Telegraph for nine years, has joined football website goal.com as a football correspondent.
