Special offer for members at York Races, May 15

The SJA is delighted to announce that, in association with partners Ladbrokes, we are staging a day out at York’s prestigious Dante Meeting next month for just £25 per person for our members.

Dante StakesOn Thursday, May 15, SJA members can enjoy meeting colleagues and old friends in corporate hospitality for about one-quarter of the usual cost.

We are especially keen for members based north of Watford to take advantage of this special day (though those based elsewhere are equally welcome, of course, and some very reasonable deals on train fares are available if you book now).

We have only 40 places available, and on a first-come, first-reserved basis, we expect them to be snapped up quickly. Fully paid-up SJA members are limited to booking two tickets each.

We have hired a box in the Ebor Stand for May 15, the Thursday of the prestigious Dante Meeting when the country’s top young horses are on display. The main race of the day is the Dante Stakes, which last year was won by Libertarian, the horse that went on to finish second in the Derby.

The gates open at 11.15am – with the first race at 1.45pm.

Members will receive entry badges, a buffet lunch and half a bottle of wine, and a chance to enjoy a day’s sport in one of the course’s top boxes.

There is a dress code (of sorts). York Racecourse’s website states: “Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket, collared shirt and tie in County Stand. Most gentlemen would choose to wear smart trousers and formal shoes to complete the look. So whilst there is no formal restriction on wearing jeans and trainers, these are rarely seen in the County Stand. In a similar vein, whilst we encourage a sense of style in the County Stand, if gentlemen believe the weather warrants shorts then there is no formal restriction to them being worn.

“Ladies are required to dress in a suitable manner, many ladies opt for a hat, although it is not compulsory. Imagine you are going to a smart wedding is our tip.”
