Hacks’ big day out: sign up for the SJA Golf Day

The SJA’s annual golf day will be taking place again at the splendid Muswell Hill Golf Club on September 9, when the annual Phil Sheldon Trophy will be contested in memory of our great, late sports photographer.

Muswell Hill Golf ClubWith tea or coffee and bacon rolls on arrival at 9am, and our new “match referee” Nick Cherrie – the deputy sports editor at the Sunday Mirror and member of the Press Golfing Society – overseeing the first group teeing off soon afterwards, after the round of golf the proceedings will conclude with a two-course lunch in the clubhouse and prize presentations made by Gill Sheldon.

All standards of golfer are welcome to attend this outstanding social occasion – and while we ask for your handicap, if you’ve only just started to play the game, we can still accommodate you. Some of us sports hacks are utter hackers on the golf course. And Muswell Hill is a golf club that, rightly, welcomes women players, too.

SJA members are encouraged to bring along guest players, and non-members of the SJA are also welcome to join us. Indeed, if you are considering becoming a member of the SJA, our golf day is a great opportunity to network and persuade you to sign up.

With the exception of your drinks at the 19th hole, the day’s golf and meal will cost SJA members just £55 (£60 for non-members of the SJA).

To book, please email Steven Downes stevenwdownes@btinternet.com , writing “2013 Golf Day” in the subject field.

As well as your name and SJA membership number, please provide detail of any special dietary requirements, and your golf handicap (if you don’t have one, just state so). Payment can be made on the day, but if you book and do not show, you will be expected to pay.
