Sentinel signs up commercial backers for tour coverage

While Premier League club Stoke City is ready to break its club transfer record, the local newspaper, the Stoke Sentinel, has signed-on seven businesses to pay for a reporter and a photographer to cover the Potters’ pre-season trips to Singapore and Germany.

Between July 15 and 18, Stoke will be playing in the Asia Trophy that also features Arsenal, Everton and a Singapore Selection XI.

Over the weekend of August 1 and 2, Stoke play in the Colonia Cup in Cologne’s Rhein-EnergieStadion, facing FC Köln, Valencia and Porto.

Both will be covered courtesy of local companies. Sentinel sports editor Keith Wales said: “This is the first time we have got our sponsors actively involved in helping us spread all the latest news concerning Stoke City.

“Using tailor-made Twitter accounts and the firms’ own Facebook pages, they will be distributing training news, match reports and interviews with fans as soon as our staff are filing them from Singapore and Germany.

“It is a true partnership, and we are really excited about its potential.”
